Dr. Andreas Schellenberg, Senior Structural Engineer at Maffei Structural Engineering, presents a fascinating history on the development and implementation of OpenFresco, OpenSEES, and OpenFresco Express – three programs vital to the success of hybrid simulation.
Dr. Andreas Schellenberg and Dr. Selim Günay provide a detailed review of the small component test setup at UC Berkeley and how it is used to assist the development of hybrid simulation applications.
Dr. Selim Günay reviews hybrid simulation strategies for testing bridges and bridge components, including the incorporation of shake table testing.
Dr. Andreas Schellenberg shows off the UC Berkeley control room and 6DOF seismic table. A demonstration is run on the shake table showing off the use of small seismic isolation bearings.
Jacob Duncan, Ph.D Candidate Research at UC Berkeley, studies the corrosion and damage seen in many active bridges across the USA and introduces methods for testing worn or damaged bridge components using hybrid simulation.
Dr. Martin Leclerc, Research Engineer at Polytechnique Montréal, presents on the Multidirectional Hybrid Testing System (MDHTS), a custom 6DOF setup for testing structural subassemblies. Dr. Leclerc reviews the overall testing capabilities, several test applications, and discusses the challenges faced when using this unique system.
Dr. Shawn Gao, Senior Systems Integration Engineer at MTS, discusses Real-Time Hybrid Simulation strategies and requirements.
Dr. Andreas Schellenberg introduces the strategy of combining traditional shake table testing with the hybrid simulation method. A hybrid shake table test offers many benefits over shake table testing alone. Dr. Schellenberg reviews the theory and implementation of this unique test method, including several examples and video demonstrations.
Dr. Selim Günay further investigates the implementation strategies behind hybrid shake table testing, including different controls techniques.
Dr. Shawn Gao provides a deeper dive on MTS controls techniques and compensators that can be used to improve hybrid simulation test results.
Members of the Hybrid Simulation community come together to remember the pioneer of hybrid simulation, Professor Stephen A. Mahin.
Dr. Shawn You, Senior Systems Integration Engineer at MTS, presents new hybrid simulation tools for Automotive, Aerospace and Wind Energy applications.
Nigel Kojimoto and Thomas Boerner, CalWave Power Technologies, discuss how they use hybrid simulation strategies for testing offshore power conversion devices.
Dr. Alex Mead, Post-Doc at PEER, introduces an expanded use for hybrid simulation technology – creating a green office building with programmed window shades based on the level of daylight.
Dr. Martin Neuenschwander, UC-Berkeley, introduces a concept for including structural fire simulation into the hybrid simulation method.
